What Cheer? Brigade is a 20-piece brass band from Providence, RI, USA. Since 2005, the band has been as likely to appear at community benefits as at all-night parties, playing bars, clubs, streets, libraries, cemeteries, weddings, bus stops, and playgrounds. They have played with Blondie, Dan Deacon, Man Man, Japanther, Dengue Fever, Okkervil River, Lightning Bolt, Ninjasonik, Mika Miko, Wolf Parade, Matt and Kim, Slavic Soul Party, Javelin, Sage Francis, and Chain and the Gang. What Cheer? Brigade has appeared at Lollapalooza, The Newport Folk Festival, Aarhus Festuge (Denmark), Sziget (Hungary), and Guca (Serbia), offering mobile moments of intense revelry. www.whatcheerbrigade.com

Chase was a resident musician at Community MusicWorks from 2012-2017 and currently records, tours and performs with the director of the Philip Glass Ensemble Michael Riesman.

Sebastian Ruth (Providence, RI, USA)
Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in d minor for solo violin
Sebastian Ruth, violinist & violist, is Community MusicWorks’ Founder & Artistic Director. A graduate of Brown University, Sebastian has been a member of the Wild Ginger Philharmonic and the Boston Philharmonic, and has performed with members of the Borromeo, Muir, Miro, Orion, and Turtle Island String Quartets, and with pianist Jonathan Biss and violist Kim Kashkashian. Influential teachers include Eric Rosenblith, Rolfe Sokol, Lois Finkel, Pamela Gearhart, Mela Tenenbaum, and Kim Kashkashian.

The project was conceived by John Noise Manis (in Italy), who made the initial adaptation to the gamelan scale, and mastered the audio files.Jonathan Adams (USA) made sound and video recordings and compiled the extensive liner notes for the album (iTunes). Adrienne Taylor (Providence, RI, USA)

Adrienne Taylor, cellist, has performed as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan, and has performed with innovative chamber music ensembles such as the Kronos Quartet, the Sphinx Virtuosi and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. Adrienne finds inspiration in collaborations with composers, singer/songwriters, and other musicians, as well as in her work in film, theater and dance. She also writes and performs her own music for solo cello, and released her debut album, SoLa, in 2018. Adrienne was one of 50 musicians selected to be a Sistema Fellow at New England Conservatory, where she studied Venezuela’s renowned youth orchestra and social action program, El Sistema. She went on to start the Daily Orchestra Program at Community MusicWorks, which combines core principles of Community MusicWorks with ideas and practices from El Sistema.
