The 8th Annual Fred Kelley Memorial Scholarship Concert

April 5, 2015 - 02:00 PM / 03:30 PM

RISD Museum Grand Gallery

wilforkThis Easter Sunday will mark the 8th annual Fred Kelley Memorial Scholarship Concert. As many of you know, this concert supports a special Community MusicWorks fund, named in honor of a CMW supporter who loved chamber music, that enables us to send students to the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music for a summer session. Last year CMW was able to send five Phase II students to Apple Hill, and last summer CMW alumnus and violist Alexis Nelson, a past Fred Kelley Scholarship recipient, attended as a counselor.

Two long-time friends and supporters of the fund are returning this year to join me for a piano trio program at the RISD Museum Grand Gallery. Cellist and former CMW colleague Heath Marlow, and pianist Jeff Louie will join me for a two-work program. The first work is by a Los Angeles violist/composer David Walther entitled “The Other Way.” As is a testament to the power and closeness of the relationships that come from chamber music, Dave is an old friend of the trio and we all grew up together at the Greenwood Chamber Music Camp in Cummington, MA. Following Dave’s trio will be the epic “Archduke” Trio by Beethoven.

Chamber music brings people together like nothing else and Apple Hill is unique in that it is a camp for all-levels, all ages, and from all over the world. Having taught there for ten years, I can attest that it is a life-changing place. I hope you will be able to come to the concert and help send CMW students to Nelson, New Hampshire to be bitten by the chamber-music bug.

While the concert and museum admission is free, I hope you will consider making a donation to support the fund. 100% of your gift goes into the Fred Kelley Scholarship fund, and no donation is too small (or too large)!

I look forward to seeing you. Even if you are not able to attend, please consider making a donation.
