MusicWorks Collective in Concert

Be transported! Join us for a moving musical exploration as the MusicWorks Collective performs three extraordinary works, including two contemporary pieces that occupy the terrain between classical Indian and western music. The program features the lyrical late Mozart G minor Quintet, a darkly heroic piece bolstered by the richness of double violas. Reena Esmail’s 2010 Piano Quintet is the composer’s first work blending sounds and motives from Hindustani music and Western composition, in what would become a theme of her career. The string quartet in Akshaya Tucker’s “In Whose Mouth the Stars” evokes an Indian classical ensemble with its drones and open strings.
