Season 26 Opening Concert

The MusicWorks Collective Season 26 Opening Concert features selected works highlighting a range of composers’ voices that together invite the listener on a rich and moving emotional journey.
The program includes Rhiannon Giddens’ At the Purchaser’s Option, arranged for string quartet, a poignant and devastating ballad based on a historic poster advertising the sale of an enslaved mother with a newborn child offered “at the purchaser’s option.” Samuel Coleridge Taylor’s Fantasiestücke for String Quartet brings us into a late 19th-century string sound world of lush textures and tender sonorities through five melodic character pieces. The concert concludes with Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, uniting the audience and performers for a spirited and warm reunion among friends.
