NEWS AND UPDATES

“We can’t live our lives without the other members of our community.”

February, 2024: At the building site of the CMW Center, work is humming along! The roof is on and the walls are weather tight. Windows and doors are in place, with framing underway on each floor. Ductwork and plumbing are in progress throughout the structure.

If you’re in the neighborhood, take a close look and you’ll see a small construction trailer off to the side, adorned by a jewel-toned mural that quietly greets passersby amidst the bustle of the CMW Center coming into place.

This is Providence artist Zeno’s mural, commissioned by CMW. At the center of the piece, surrounded by musical performers, scenes of nature, and ringed by sunflowers, is a depiction of the late Deborah Wyatt, who helmed the nearby West End Community Center as Executive Director, and served as an inspiration and early supporter of CMW, where the very first community violin lessons took place.

In this video, you’ll meet the artist and get a first-hand interpretation of the meaning behind the mural’s featured images and see the artist at work creating his “symphony of color and movement.”
