So today we cut stems from samples and made our own remixes, using different kick drums, basses, snares and all types of other sounds. My piece is still in the works but I’ll post it soon so you can listen.

Basically what I did today was get a stem from a sample and then after that I played the instrument over it. The intro to my remix sounds kind of atmospheric and nonrythmic. It is still a work in progress since I only finished the intro. – Paul Paul, 4-19-2010Today in Media Lab I picked up where I left off last week with the project I was working on. Originally I just had a steady bass going on in the back ground. After today I decided I just wanted to solo over it with my instrument. It took me a while to find something that would sound good over the bass part I had. Finally I figured out that strings sounded pretty good with it so I used that to solo and recorded it. This project is still in progress though – I still think I need to add more stuff to it. Here’s where I am now: [audio:http://www.communitymusicworks.org/medialab/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/paul_4-19-10.mp3|titles=paul_4-19-10 ]– Paul Karl O, 4-19-10Today in Media Lab I created a track that is based on one of the variations of the CMW song. Also, I’ve added a section that is dark and slow. Then at the end I again put something based on one of the CMW song variations. I worked on it at a slow pace because I was trying to figure out some little things. I had to to make sure the beat was either fast or slow enough for the part I was playing. I’m going to work on it more next time. – Paul Karl O, 4-12-10Today during media I learned how to record things and put it up on Logic. I tried to make a beat with it, but I didn’t really like it. Also, I learned how to make things fit in to my track. That’s what I learned today. Here’s a sample of what I made before. Maybe I’ll try again next time with my recording. [audio:http://www.communitymusicworks.org/medialab/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/karl_cmwsong.mp3|titles=Karl’s CMW Song ]– Karl Today’s LessonToday I learned about synthesized beats & the different sounds that come up with it. As well as fixing the rhythm of the beat when you get off track. I wanted to make a beat using the same sounds as Wiz Khalifa’s ‘This Plane’. I used Analog Lead on the MIDI keyboard & used the Hip Hop heavy drum kit with a stereo bass. Listen below: – Jeffry Paul and Josh’s Recap, 4-5-10So Henry had a plan for today: He asked Paul and I to bring in songs we would like to replicate so we could learn more about how the music we like is put together. So we did so, we brought music from artists such as Kanye West to a producer called Flying Lotus. Henry taught us how some producers would do make this music in Logic Pro. Going over Flying Lotus for example he explained how he created drum loops. We then started to go into the EQ, which is a equalizer, and learned how to make emphasis on a bass line. We also learned how to make the bass pitch higher. Listen to our original piece (which we made on Saturday at Media Lab Open Hours), then compare it to our edited version which we did with Henry’s guidance and wisdom. (original) (edited) – Josh and Paul Welcome to Electronic Music Composition 2In this class, Henry Kerins (Brown MEME major) will work with a few students from Electronic Music Composition 1 to advance their producing skills. Thanks Henry! |
