Video Class: Getting It Started (Day 1)

Today was the first day of our video class!

When we first came upstairs, we talked about ourselves to get to know each other. Then we talked about 4 different kinds of videos that we could make. They are documentary, experimental, stop motion, and narrative. We watched some examples up on the wall with the projector.  Here are some of the films we saw:

“All Talk,” “Light Control,” and “His Day” from the Fast Forward Program on the ICA Teens site
“Little Brother,” and “The Next Musician” from the Real to Reel Film School of RAW Artworks
“Fancyman Chronicles Part 1,” “Richard, Kyle and Josh,” and “Credit Sequence” from RISD Project Open Door
“Panic” by artist Lauren Mackler

We talked about how we felt about what we saw and what types of videos they were. After that we did two things. We made clips of ourselves by taking video and pictures on Photo Booth. While that was going on, we were also taking stop motion pictures of ourselves. We were modeling a credit sequence that Anne showed us. Some of us even got to dress up in some funny clothes. We’ll use it later in the class when we show our movies.

Here’s what everyone had to say about today:

“It was a great first day. It was interesting.” -Jessica
“It was relaxed.” -Malachy
“It’s a good start.” -Elvis
“I liked using Photo Booth.” -Nate
“I loved watching examples of different kinds of films and I’m looking forward to the films that we will make in this class.” -Jori
“CMW kids are really fun and creative.” -Anne
“I liked learning about the four different kinds of videos that I could work with.” -Kirby
